Compare the cost of different models

Language models are priced per token, and costs vary widely between models and providers. This calculator compares total cost across models by your input and output token counts and each model’s per-million-token prices, so you can choose on cost with real numbers.

Why token pricing needs comparing

Models charge separately for input tokens (your prompt) and output tokens (the response), often at different rates, and prices between models can differ by an order of magnitude. So the cheapest model for a task depends on the ratio of input to output and the volume, not just a headline price. A task with long prompts and short answers costs differently from one with short prompts and long answers. Comparing the total cost across models for your actual token usage is the only way to choose sensibly, and at scale the difference between models can be very large.

Choose on real cost

The tool runs entirely in your browser, so nothing you paste, prompts, outputs or documents, is uploaded, which matters when the input is sensitive AI data or your own content.

Frequently Asked Questions

How are language models priced?

Per token, usually with separate rates for input tokens (your prompt) and output tokens (the response), which can differ significantly.

Why compare total cost rather than headline price?

Because the cheapest model depends on your ratio of input to output tokens and your volume, not just a per-token rate. The mix matters.

How much do prices vary between models?

Widely, sometimes by an order of magnitude, so at scale the choice of model can make a very large difference to cost.

What do I need to compare?

Your typical input and output token counts and each model’s per-million-token prices, which the calculator combines into a total.

Is my data uploaded?

No. The calculation runs entirely in your browser.
