Calculate tokens per dollar
This calculator shows how much language model usage a given budget buys. From a price per million tokens and a budget, it computes the number of tokens you can process and translates that into an approximate word count, using the common rule of thumb that a token is about three quarters of a word in English. A hundred-dollar budget at fifty cents per million tokens buys two hundred million tokens, roughly a hundred and fifty million words.
It also estimates the equivalent number of pages, taking five hundred words as a typical page.
Budgeting for AI usage
Translating an abstract token price into tokens, words and pages makes it far easier to plan an AI budget and set expectations. Whether you are estimating the cost of summarising a document collection, running a chatbot, or generating content at scale, seeing the volume your money buys grounds the decision. Remember that input and output tokens may be priced differently, so apply the relevant rate to each part.
The word and page figures are approximations, since tokenisation varies with language and content. All calculation happens locally in your browser.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many words is a token?
As a rough rule of thumb, a token is about three quarters of an English word, though this varies with language and content.
How is the token count calculated?
It divides your budget by the price per million tokens and multiplies by a million to get the number of tokens you can process.
Are input and output priced the same?
Often not. Apply the input price to prompt tokens and the output price to generated tokens, since providers usually charge them differently.
How accurate are the word and page estimates?
They are approximations based on common ratios, useful for planning but not exact, as tokenisation depends on the text.
