Calculate your test grade
This calculator turns a raw test score into a percentage and a letter grade. It divides the number of correct answers by the total number of questions and multiplies by one hundred to get the percentage, then maps that percentage to a letter grade using a standard scale. Forty-two correct out of fifty is 84 percent, a B. The calculator also shows how many questions were answered incorrectly, giving a quick, complete picture of performance.
The letter-grade scale follows the common American convention, where ninety and above is an A and below sixty is a failing F.
Grading made easy
Teachers grading a stack of papers and students checking their own results both need to convert scores to grades quickly. Doing it by hand is simple but error-prone across many tests, and a calculator removes mistakes. Knowing both the percentage and the letter grade is useful because percentages show fine differences while letter grades give the familiar summary.
Grading scales vary between schools and countries, so the letter grade here is a common default rather than a universal standard; adjust your interpretation to your institution's scale. The percentage is universal. All calculation happens locally in your browser.

Frequently Asked Questions
How is the test grade calculated?
Divide correct answers by total questions and multiply by one hundred to get the percentage, which maps to a letter grade.
What grading scale does it use?
A common scale where ninety and above is an A, eighty is a B, seventy is a C, sixty is a D and below sixty is an F, with plus and minus bands.
Can I use it for any number of questions?
Yes. Enter any number of correct answers and total questions, and the tool computes the percentage and grade.
Does my school use this exact scale?
Scales vary by institution and country, so treat the letter grade as a common default and adjust to your own grading policy.
Does it handle weighted questions?
This tool assumes each question is worth the same. For questions of different weights, a weighted grade calculator is more appropriate.
