Generate a Kubernetes CronJob

A CronJob runs a task on a repeating schedule inside a Kubernetes cluster, much like a traditional cron entry but containerised and managed by Kubernetes. This generator produces a CronJob manifest from the name, a standard cron schedule expression, the container image and the command to run. It sets a sensible restart policy of OnFailure and structures the job template correctly, giving you a ready-to-apply scheduled task.

The schedule uses the familiar five-field cron syntax, so "0 2 * * *" runs daily at two in the morning.

Scheduled tasks in Kubernetes

CronJobs are ideal for recurring work such as backups, report generation, cleanup tasks and periodic data syncs. Each run creates a Job, which in turn creates a pod to do the work, and Kubernetes tracks successes and failures. Using a CronJob keeps scheduled tasks inside the cluster where they benefit from the same scheduling, scaling and observability as the rest of your workloads.

Verify your cron expression carefully, since a mistake can run a task far too often or at the wrong time. Review the manifest and apply it. All generation happens locally in your browser.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Kubernetes CronJob?

It runs a containerised task on a repeating schedule, like cron but managed by Kubernetes, creating a Job and pod for each run.

What schedule format does it use?

The standard five-field cron syntax for minute, hour, day of month, month and day of week, such as 0 2 * * * for daily at 2am.

What is it good for?

Recurring tasks like backups, report generation, cleanup and periodic data syncs that benefit from running inside the cluster.

Why restartPolicy OnFailure?

It retries the pod if the task fails but does not restart it after success, which suits one-off scheduled work.
