Generate a ResourceQuota

A ResourceQuota limits the total amount of compute resources and the number of objects a namespace may consume, which is essential for fair sharing of a cluster between teams or environments. This generator produces a ResourceQuota manifest from the namespace, a CPU limit, a memory limit and a maximum number of pods. It caps both the requested and limit totals for CPU and memory, preventing any single namespace from monopolising the cluster.

With a quota in place, Kubernetes rejects new resources that would exceed the namespace's allocation.

Multi-tenancy and cost control

Resource quotas are a key tool for running a shared cluster safely, giving each team a bounded slice of capacity so one noisy workload cannot starve the others. They also help control costs by putting a ceiling on how much a namespace can request. When a quota is active, pods must declare resource requests and limits, which encourages good resource hygiene across the board.

Set quotas that match each team's needs with some headroom, and combine them with LimitRanges to set sensible per-pod defaults. Review the manifest and apply it. All generation happens locally in your browser.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a ResourceQuota do?

It caps the total CPU, memory and object counts a namespace can use, ensuring fair sharing of a cluster between teams or environments.

What happens when a quota is exceeded?

Kubernetes rejects new resources that would push the namespace over its quota, so requests must fit within the allocation.

Does a quota force pods to set requests?

Yes. When a quota limits CPU or memory, pods in that namespace must declare the corresponding requests and limits, encouraging good practice.

Should I combine it with LimitRange?

Yes. A LimitRange sets per-pod defaults and bounds, complementing the namespace-wide totals that a ResourceQuota enforces.
