Convert Kubernetes memory units
Kubernetes expresses memory quantities with two families of suffixes that are easy to confuse. The binary suffixes Ki, Mi, Gi and Ti use powers of 1024, while the decimal suffixes K, M, G and T use powers of 1000. A request of 512Mi is 512 times 1024 squared bytes, which is noticeably more than 512M. This converter translates a value in any Kubernetes memory unit into bytes and all the other units, so you can size requests and limits accurately.
Getting the suffix right matters, because mistaking Mi for M understates memory by about five percent and can cause pods to be killed.
Sizing pods correctly
Memory requests and limits directly affect scheduling and stability: too low and pods get evicted or killed when they exceed the limit, too high and you waste cluster capacity. Because Kubernetes manifests mix binary and decimal suffixes, converting between them helps you compare values, interpret monitoring output and translate figures from documentation that uses a different convention.
When in doubt, the binary suffixes Mi and Gi are the most common in Kubernetes manifests. This converter keeps the two systems straight. All calculation happens locally in your browser.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Mi and M?
Mi is a binary mebibyte of 1024 squared bytes, while M is a decimal megabyte of 1000 squared bytes, so Mi is about five percent larger.
Which suffixes does Kubernetes prefer?
Both are valid, but the binary suffixes Ki, Mi, Gi and Ti are the most common in Kubernetes memory requests and limits.
Why does the distinction matter?
Confusing Mi and M misstates memory by about five percent, which can cause pods to be scheduled wrongly or killed for exceeding limits.
Can I convert to raw bytes?
Yes. The converter shows the exact byte value alongside all the binary and decimal unit equivalents.
