Measure how fast you react

Reaction time is how quickly you respond to a stimulus, and it is measured in milliseconds. This test measures your visual reflex speed: when the screen changes, you click as fast as you can, and it records the gap. Repeat it and you get a sense of your typical reaction time.

What the numbers mean

A typical human visual reaction time is around two hundred to two hundred and fifty milliseconds, most of which is the unavoidable delay of the signal travelling from eye to brain to hand. You cannot really train that floor much, but fatigue, distraction and caffeine visibly shift your results, which is part of the fun of repeating it. Averaging several attempts gives a truer figure than any single one, since a single go can be a lucky guess or a lapse.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a typical reaction time?

Around two hundred to two hundred and fifty milliseconds for a visual stimulus, most of it the unavoidable delay of the signal travelling from eye to brain to hand.

Can I improve my reaction time?

The physiological floor is hard to lower much, but fatigue, distraction and alertness shift your results noticeably, so your best times come when you are focused.

Why average several attempts?

Because a single attempt can be a lucky early click or a lapse. Averaging several gives a truer measure of your typical speed.

What is it measuring exactly?

The gap between the screen changing and your click, which is your visual reflex speed in milliseconds.

Is my result uploaded?

No. The test runs entirely in your browser.
