Calculate the erasure request deadline

Under Article 17 of the GDPR, individuals have the right to have their personal data erased, often called the right to be forgotten. When a valid request is received, the organisation must respond without undue delay and in any event within one month. This calculator works out that deadline from the date the request was received, and shows the extended three-month deadline available for complex or numerous requests. A request received on the tenth of June 2025 must normally be answered by the tenth of July 2025.

The one-month period runs from the day after receipt, and this tool gives the corresponding calendar date.

Responding to erasure requests

Meeting the statutory deadline is essential, as missing it can lead to complaints and regulatory action. The one-month clock applies to most data subject requests under the GDPR, including access and erasure. The deadline can be extended by a further two months, to three in total, where a request is complex or the individual has made several requests, provided you inform them of the extension within the first month.

Erasure is not absolute; it applies where one of the specified grounds is met and no overriding reason to retain the data exists. All calculation happens locally in your browser.
