Calculate NFT rarity score

Rarity ranking tools score an NFT by adding up the rarity of each of its traits, using the method where each trait contributes the inverse of how common it is. A trait held by five percent of the collection contributes a score of one divided by 0.05, or 20, while a trait held by half the collection contributes only 2. This calculator sums these inverse-rarity contributions across the traits you enter as frequencies, producing the total rarity score that drives most rarity rankings.

The higher the score, the rarer the NFT, because rare traits contribute far more than common ones.

How rarity ranking works

This sum-of-inverse-rarity method is the most widely used approach because it rewards NFTs that have one or more genuinely rare traits, rather than just averaging rarity. An NFT with a single extremely rare trait can rank highly even if its other traits are common. Collectors and traders use rarity scores to estimate relative value within a collection, since rarer items often command higher prices.

Enter each trait frequency as the percentage of the collection that shares it. Different platforms may normalise scores differently, so compare within one method. All calculation happens locally in your browser.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is the rarity score calculated?

Each trait contributes one divided by its frequency as a fraction, and the contributions are summed, so rare traits add much more than common ones.

Why use the inverse of rarity?

It rewards NFTs with genuinely rare traits, since a trait held by a small fraction of the collection contributes a large score.

What frequency do I enter?

Enter the percentage of the collection that shares each trait, for example five if five percent of items have that trait.

Do all platforms rank the same way?

The sum-of-inverse-rarity method is common, but platforms may normalise or weight differently, so compare scores within a single method.
