Why category matters
eBay’s main final value fee is a percentage of the total sale that differs from one selling category to another, which means the very same sale price can net you quite differently depending on exactly what it is you are selling. On top of that percentage there are also fixed per-order fees to account for. Working the total fees out against your item cost and your shipping expense gives you your genuine profit, which is very often noticeably lower than sellers first expect.
