Hide your email from spam bots

Publishing an email address in plain text on a web page invites spam, because automated bots crawl pages harvesting addresses to add to junk-mail lists. This tool obfuscates an address so it still displays and works for human visitors but is much harder for simple scrapers to collect. It offers HTML entity encoding, which renders normally in browsers but hides the plain text in the source; a human-readable form that replaces the at and dot symbols with words; and a CSS trick that reverses the characters visually.

The HTML entity method keeps a working mailto link while disguising the address from basic harvesting scripts.

Obfuscation, not encryption

Email obfuscation raises the effort required to scrape an address, which deters the many simple bots that grab anything matching an email pattern. It is not foolproof: determined or sophisticated harvesters can still decode these techniques, so it reduces spam rather than eliminating it. Combining obfuscation with a contact form and spam filtering gives the best protection.

Choose the entity method when you want a clickable link, or the spaced-words form when a plain-text display is acceptable. All processing happens locally in your browser.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does email obfuscation reduce spam?

It hides the plain-text address from the simple bots that scrape pages for anything matching an email pattern, lowering how much junk mail you receive.

Does the HTML entity method still work for visitors?

Yes. Browsers render the entities as the normal address, and it keeps a working mailto link, while the page source hides the plain text.

Is obfuscation completely secure?

No. It deters simple harvesters but sophisticated bots can decode it, so it reduces spam rather than preventing it entirely.

What is the best approach overall?

Combine obfuscation with a contact form and spam filtering for the strongest protection against address harvesting and junk mail.
