Generate a passphrase you can remember
A strong password you cannot remember gets written down or reused, defeating the point. This generator creates strong, memorable passphrases from random words, diceware-style, which are both hard to guess and easy for a human to recall.
Why word passphrases beat character passwords
A passphrase of several random words has enormous entropy, because the number of possible combinations is astronomical, while remaining memorable, because words are far easier to recall than a random string of symbols. This is the diceware idea: random words chosen from a large list. Crucially, the words must be chosen randomly, not by you, since human-chosen words are predictable. Four or five random words typically give more real strength than a short, fussy password, and you can actually remember them, which is what makes them practical as well as secure.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why are word passphrases strong?
Because several randomly chosen words have an astronomical number of combinations, giving high entropy, while remaining memorable in a way a random symbol string is not.
What is diceware?
A method of building a passphrase from words chosen at random from a large list, originally using dice. The randomness is what makes it strong.
Why must the words be random?
Because human-chosen words are predictable, which collapses the strength. Randomly chosen words keep the full combinatorial strength.
How many words should I use?
Four or five random words typically give more real strength than a short, fussy password, while staying memorable.
Is my passphrase uploaded?
No. The generation runs entirely in your browser.
