Generate an RSA key pair
RSA is a foundational public-key cryptosystem, and a key pair, a public key to share and a private key to keep secret, is the basis of much secure communication. This tool generates RSA public and private key pairs in your browser for learning, testing and development.
How the key pair works
RSA gives you two mathematically linked keys: anything encrypted with the public key can only be decrypted with the private key, and a signature made with the private key can be verified with the public one. That asymmetry is what lets strangers communicate securely, you publish the public key and keep the private key secret. The security rests on the private key never being exposed, so generating keys locally in your browser, rather than on a server, keeps the private key on your machine. For production use, key length and secure storage are what matter most.
Keys generated locally
The tool runs entirely in your browser, so nothing you paste is uploaded, which is exactly what you want when the input is your own security-sensitive data.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is an RSA key pair?
Two linked keys: a public key to share and a private key to keep secret. Data encrypted with the public key can only be decrypted with the private one.
Why generate keys in the browser?
So the private key is created on your own machine and never sent to a server, which matters because the private key’s secrecy is the whole security.
What is the public key for?
Sharing. Others use it to encrypt data only you can decrypt, or to verify signatures you made with your private key.
What matters for production keys?
An adequate key length and secure storage of the private key. This tool suits learning, testing and development.
Is my private key uploaded?
No. The keys are generated entirely in your browser, so the private key stays on your machine.
