Transform text with ROT47
ROT47 is a simple substitution cipher, a cousin of the well-known ROT13, that shifts characters by forty-seven places within the range of printable ASCII characters from exclamation mark to tilde. Unlike ROT13, which affects only letters, ROT47 also transforms digits and punctuation, producing a more thoroughly scrambled result. Applying ROT47 a second time returns the original text, because ninety-four characters are involved and shifting by forty-seven twice completes a full cycle.
For example, the word Hello becomes w6==@ under ROT47.
A reversible obfuscation
ROT47 is used for light obfuscation rather than security: hiding spoilers, puzzle answers, or text you do not want read at a glance. Because the method is public and the key is fixed, it offers no real protection and should never be used to conceal sensitive information. Its appeal is simplicity and the fact that encoding and decoding use exactly the same operation.
The cipher leaves spaces and characters outside the printable ASCII range unchanged. For genuine confidentiality, use proper encryption instead. All processing happens locally in your browser.
Privacy and usage
Because the rot47 encoder runs entirely in your browser, nothing you enter is uploaded or stored, so you can use it with sensitive values safely. The output is generated locally and never transmitted, and you can run the tool as many times as you need for free.

Frequently Asked Questions
How is ROT47 different from ROT13?
ROT13 shifts only letters, while ROT47 shifts all printable ASCII including digits and punctuation, giving a more scrambled result.
Is ROT47 reversible?
Yes. Applying it twice restores the original, because shifting by forty-seven twice across ninety-four characters completes a full cycle.
Is ROT47 secure?
No. It is a fixed, public cipher for light obfuscation only, offering no real security. Use proper encryption for sensitive data.
What characters does it affect?
Printable ASCII from code 33 to 126. Spaces and characters outside that range are left unchanged.
Privacy & Security
Everything runs in your browser; nothing is uploaded.
