Generate a strong Wi-Fi key

The password protecting your Wi-Fi network is only as strong as its randomness and length, and a weak one can be cracked offline by an attacker who captures the handshake. This generator creates strong random WPA keys, either a human-usable password of your chosen length and character set, or a full sixty-four-character hexadecimal pre-shared key, which is the raw 256-bit key WPA uses internally. A long random key makes brute-force and dictionary attacks impractical.

The characters are drawn from the browser secure random generator where available, avoiding the predictable patterns that weaken many home network passwords.

Securing your wireless network

Default router passwords and simple phrases are prime targets, because attackers can test billions of guesses against a captured handshake. A random key of twenty or more characters offers so many combinations that offline cracking becomes infeasible. The hexadecimal option produces the strongest possible WPA pre-shared key, though it is harder to type into devices by hand.

Choose a WPA2 or WPA3 network, set a long random key, and change it if you suspect it has been shared too widely. The key is generated locally and never transmitted. All generation happens locally in your browser.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long should a Wi-Fi password be?

At least twenty random characters is recommended. The longer and more random it is, the harder it is to crack through offline attacks.

What is the 64-hex option?

It generates the full sixty-four-character hexadecimal pre-shared key, the raw 256-bit key WPA uses, which is the strongest but hardest to type.

Why does randomness matter for Wi-Fi keys?

Attackers can test guesses offline against a captured handshake, so predictable passwords fall quickly while a long random key resists billions of attempts.

Is the key sent anywhere?

No. It is generated locally in your browser and never transmitted, so only you ever see it.
