Compute the next semantic version
Semantic versioning encodes the nature of a change in the version number, and bumping it correctly matters. This calculator computes the next version for a major, minor or patch bump, and can add pre-release identifiers, so your versions follow the standard.
Why the bump type carries meaning
Semantic versioning has three parts, major.minor.patch, and which you increment tells users what changed: a patch is a backwards-compatible fix, a minor adds backwards-compatible features, and a major introduces breaking changes. Getting this right lets others depend on your software safely, since their tools use the version to decide whether an update is safe to take automatically. Bumping the wrong part, a breaking change released as a patch, breaks that contract and other people’s builds. The calculator applies the rules, including resetting the lower parts, which is easy to forget.
Version by the rules
It runs entirely in your browser, so nothing you paste is uploaded and the result is yours to copy straight into a project, which lets you work on private code and data without anything leaving your machine.

Frequently Asked Questions
What do major, minor and patch mean?
A patch is a backwards-compatible fix, a minor adds backwards-compatible features, and a major introduces breaking changes. The part you bump signals what changed.
Why does the bump type matter?
Because others depend on the version to decide whether an update is safe. A breaking change released as a patch breaks their builds and the versioning contract.
What happens to the lower parts on a bump?
They reset: bumping minor zeroes the patch, and bumping major zeroes both. The calculator handles this, which is easy to forget by hand.
Can it add pre-release identifiers?
Yes. It can append pre-release identifiers like alpha or beta, following the semantic versioning format.
Is my input uploaded?
No. The calculation runs entirely in your browser.
Privacy & Security
