All six trigonometric functions at once

This Trigonometry Calculator evaluates the three primary trigonometric functions, sine, cosine and tangent, together with their reciprocals, cosecant, secant and cotangent, for any angle you enter. You can work in degrees, the everyday unit, or radians, the unit used in calculus and higher mathematics, and the tool also shows the angle converted to radians for reference.

Tangent, secant, cosecant and cotangent are undefined at certain angles where their denominators reach zero, such as tangent at ninety degrees. The calculator detects these cases and reports "undefined" instead of an unreliable huge number.

Using trig functions

Trigonometry links angles to lengths and is essential in geometry, physics, engineering, navigation, surveying and computer graphics. Sine and cosine describe waves and circular motion, while tangent relates to slopes and gradients. Students use these functions constantly when solving triangles and modelling periodic phenomena.

Values are computed with the browser's standard math library, which is accurate to roughly fifteen significant digits. Results very close to zero are shown as zero to avoid tiny rounding artefacts. All calculation happens locally in your browser.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I use degrees or radians?

Use degrees for everyday geometry and radians for calculus or physics. The tool accepts either and shows the radian equivalent of your angle.

Why is tangent sometimes undefined?

Tangent equals sine over cosine, so it is undefined wherever cosine is zero, such as at ninety and two hundred seventy degrees.

What are cosecant, secant and cotangent?

They are the reciprocals of sine, cosine and tangent respectively, used when those relationships are more convenient to work with.

How accurate are the results?

They use the browser\'s floating-point math, accurate to about fifteen significant figures, which is more than enough for schoolwork and engineering.

Does it handle angles over 360 degrees?

Yes. Trigonometric functions are periodic, so large or negative angles are evaluated correctly by wrapping around the circle.
