Hide what should not be seen

Screenshots and photos often contain something that should not be shared: a face, a name, an account number, a licence plate. This tool blurs or pixelates part or all of an image so you can obscure sensitive detail before sharing, with the whole operation happening in your browser so the original never leaves your machine.

Blur versus pixelate, and which is safer

Both hide detail, but they are not equally secure. A light blur can sometimes be partially reversed or read through; a coarse pixelation that averages large blocks destroys the underlying detail more thoroughly. For genuinely sensitive information, a strong pixelation over a small blur is the safer choice, because the goal is to remove the information, not merely to make it look hidden.

Redaction that stays local

The reason to redact in the browser is obvious once stated: uploading a document to blur out its sensitive part would defeat the purpose. Here the image is processed on your machine, so the unredacted original is never transmitted. Obscure what matters, export the result, and only the redacted version exists to share.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between blur and pixelate?

Blur softens detail smoothly; pixelate replaces regions with solid blocks of averaged colour. For hiding sensitive information, strong pixelation destroys the detail more thoroughly than a light blur.

Is a light blur safe for sensitive data?

Not always. A light blur can sometimes be partially read or reversed. For genuinely sensitive detail, use strong pixelation to remove the information rather than just soften it.

Is my image uploaded?

No. The blurring happens in your browser, so the unredacted original never leaves your machine, which is the whole point of redacting locally.

Can I blur just part of an image?

Yes. You can obscure a specific region, such as a face or an account number, rather than the whole image.

Can I download the redacted image?

Yes. Export the result so only the redacted version exists to share.
