Add punch or calm a harsh image
Contrast is the spread between the light and dark parts of an image. Too little and a photo looks flat and grey; too much and it looks harsh with crushed shadows and glaring highlights. This tool raises or lowers contrast so you can give a flat image punch or soften a harsh one, entirely in your browser.
How contrast differs from brightness
Brightness moves the whole image lighter or darker together; contrast pushes the light and dark apart or pulls them together. Increasing contrast makes darks darker and lights lighter, which adds definition and drama. Reducing it brings them toward the middle, which is useful for a scan that is too stark or an image you want to sit quietly behind text. Knowing which of the two an image needs is half the edit.
A fast, local adjustment
Contrast is often the adjustment that turns a dull photo into a striking one, and it takes a moment on a slider. Doing it in the browser keeps the image on your machine rather than uploading it to an editor. Adjust to taste, preview, and export the result.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between contrast and brightness?
Brightness moves the whole image lighter or darker; contrast pushes the light and dark parts apart or pulls them together, changing definition rather than overall level.
When should I increase contrast?
When an image looks flat and grey. Raising contrast darkens the shadows and brightens the highlights, adding definition and punch.
When would I reduce contrast?
For a scan that is too stark, or an image you want to sit quietly behind text, where a softer range reads better.
Is my image uploaded?
No. The adjustment runs in your browser, so the image stays on your machine.
Can I download the adjusted image?
Yes. Preview the change and export the result.
