Transparency has to be flattened

JPEG has no alpha channel, so any transparent pixel must be filled. Converters that default to black produce the familiar ruined logo sitting on a dark rectangle. White matches most page backgrounds; the actual colour behind where the image will sit is better. Decide this before converting, because once flattened the transparency is gone.

Compatibility is the reason

JPEG opens in effectively everything written in the last thirty years. That is its remaining advantage over WebP, which browsers handle universally but some desktop software, older email clients and print workflows still reject. If the file is going to an unknown recipient or an old system, JPEG is the safe handoff.

Two lossy formats in a row

Converting lossy WebP to JPEG re-encodes already-lossy content, so artefacts compound. At quality 85 or above the additional loss is hard to see, but it is real and cumulative. Convert from an original wherever one exists rather than from an already-compressed intermediate.

Expect the file to grow slightly

JPEG is typically 25 to 35 percent larger than WebP at equivalent visual quality, which is the same efficiency gap read from the other direction. You are trading file size for compatibility, which is a reasonable trade when compatibility is the requirement.

Quality setting

Around 85 is a sensible target for a conversion, slightly higher than the 80 you would use encoding from an original, because you are compensating for the second round of loss. Above 92 the file grows steeply for no visible benefit.
