Image Filters

An online image filter applies a colour treatment to a photo without opening an editor: grayscale, sepia, inverted, a warm vintage look or a cool cast, with brightness, contrast and saturation sliders on top. This one renders through the browser's canvas filter pipeline and exports the edited file at full resolution.

How the filters are applied

Each preset is a combination of CSS filter functions run on a canvas: grayscale(1), sepia(1), invert(1), a vintage mix of sepia, reduced saturation and a slight contrast lift, and a cool preset that shifts hue and desaturates. The three sliders multiply on top of whichever preset is active, at 100 percent meaning unchanged. Because the canvas is set to the image's own dimensions, the download is a full-resolution PNG, not the preview size.

Getting a natural result

  • Grayscale and sepia at 100 percent are complete conversions; back them off by raising saturation slightly if you want a hint of colour to remain.
  • Contrast above about 130 percent clips highlights and shadows to pure white and black, which shows as flat patches. Check the image histogram viewer if unsure.
  • Brightness is a multiplier, so it brightens highlights faster than shadows. For lifting shadows alone, an editor with curves is the right tool.

What is not here

No layers, no masks, no local adjustments, no cropping. The tool does one global colour treatment quickly and privately. Chain it with the image resizer or cropper before, and the compressor after, for a complete pipeline that never leaves the browser.

Output and metadata

The download is a new PNG drawn from pixels. EXIF data, including location and camera details, is not carried across. Save the original separately if you need it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is my image uploaded?

No. It is loaded into a canvas in your browser, filtered there, and the download is created locally.

Why is the download a PNG and larger than my JPEG?

Canvas export defaults to lossless PNG. Run the result through the image compressor to get a JPEG or WebP at a chosen quality.

Can I apply two presets at once?

No, one preset at a time, but the brightness, contrast and saturation sliders combine with any preset.

Why does the vintage filter look different from an app's vintage filter?

Every app defines its own recipe. This one is sepia plus lowered saturation and a small contrast lift; there is no standard.

Does the filter change image dimensions?

No. Output matches the input pixel size exactly.
