Generate star shapes as SVG
A star is drawn by alternating between an outer radius for the points and an inner radius for the notches between them. This generator lets you set the number of points, both radii and the colours, producing clean SVG code for a perfectly symmetrical star. Five points make the classic star, while more points and a larger inner radius create softer, flower-like shapes. The ratio between the two radii controls how sharp or stubby the points look.
Every vertex is placed with trigonometry so the star is exactly symmetrical at any size you choose.
Using star shapes
Stars are common in ratings, badges, decorations and logos, and having one as scalable SVG means it stays crisp whether it is a tiny icon or a large graphic. Because the shape is a single polygon, you can recolour it, resize it or animate it easily. Adjusting the inner radius is the quickest way to change the character of the star, from spiky to rounded.
The code is self-contained and works anywhere SVG is supported. Everything is generated locally in your browser.
Notes
This SVG Star Generator tool runs entirely in your browser, so nothing you enter is uploaded or stored on a server. The generated output is plain, standards-compliant code that you can copy, paste, edit and reuse freely in your own projects, documents and designs without any attribution or sign-up.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do the two radii work?
The outer radius sets the tips of the points and the inner radius sets the notches between them. Their ratio controls how sharp the star looks.
How many points can a star have?
Any number from three upwards. Five is the classic star, while more points create more intricate shapes.
How do I make the points sharper?
Use a smaller inner radius relative to the outer radius. A larger inner radius makes the points stubbier.
Can I use this for a rating star?
Yes. The single polygon is easy to resize and recolour, making it suitable for rating widgets and badges.
