Page size is the decision that matters

An image has pixel dimensions; a PDF page has physical ones. Fitting each image to a fixed A4 or Letter page produces a document that prints predictably, which is what you want for receipts, forms and anything going to a printer. Sizing each page to its image gives a document that displays perfectly and prints awkwardly, because the printer must scale or crop pages of varying dimensions.

Resolution decides print quality

Printed output wants around 300 pixels per inch across the printed area, roughly 2480 by 3508 pixels to fill A4. A phone photograph comfortably exceeds that; a screenshot typically does not, which is why screenshots converted to PDF look crisp on a monitor and soft on paper. Nothing in the conversion can add detail that was not captured.

The result contains pictures, not text

This is the most common misunderstanding. A PDF built from images cannot be searched, its text cannot be selected, and a screen reader finds nothing to announce. It looks like a document and behaves like a photo album. If you need any of that, the file has to go through OCR after conversion.

Watch the file size

JPEG images embed almost as-is and stay compact. PNG photographs are far larger than the equivalent JPEG and will inflate the PDF considerably, so converting photographic PNGs to JPEG before assembling can cut the result dramatically with no visible difference. Keep PNG only for screenshots with sharp text.

Order and orientation

Pages appear in the order the images are listed, so arrange them first. Watch for the alphabetical trap where image10 sorts before image2. Portrait images on landscape pages waste space; set orientation per document rather than accepting a default.

Nothing is uploaded

Images are read and the PDF assembled in your browser, so photographs of documents, receipts and identity papers never leave your device.
