Why empty lines accumulate

Blank lines have a habit of appearing in text without anyone ever adding them deliberately: data exports leave gaps between records, a copy-and-paste often doubles the spacing, and merged files add empty lines at every join. They make an otherwise fine block harder to read and awkward to process further. Removing them closes the text up into a clean, dense, usable form. Lines that only contain whitespace, a stray space or tab that make a line look blank while it technically is not, are handled too, so no ghost lines survive the cleanup.
