Why rolls are not just area divided by roll area
Wallpaper is hung in full-height strips, and each roll yields a whole number of strips, with the leftover at the top or bottom of a strip usually wasted, plus pattern matching consumes extra. So the rolls needed is more than the raw wall area divided by roll area suggests. Estimating from the wall dimensions and roll size, accounting for how strips are cut from a roll, gives a realistic count, which prevents the common mistake of buying too few and being unable to match the batch.
