Work out how much paint to buy
Buying too little paint means a return trip and a colour-match risk; too much wastes money. This calculator estimates the paint litres required from your area, coats, coverage and wastage, so you buy the right amount.
Why coats and coverage both matter
Paint needed is the area to cover times the number of coats, divided by the coverage per litre, plus an allowance for wastage. Skipping any of these misleads: two coats double the paint, coverage varies by paint and surface, and some is always lost to rollers and spills. Estimating from all of them gives a realistic figure, which avoids both the frustration of running out mid-wall and the waste of over-buying, and it lets you plan the purchase in one trip.

Frequently Asked Questions
How is paint quantity calculated?
As the area times the number of coats, divided by the coverage per litre, plus a wastage allowance, giving the litres to buy.
Why do coats matter so much?
Because each coat covers the whole area again, so two coats need roughly double the paint of one. Skipping this underestimates badly.
What is coverage?
How much area a litre of paint covers, which varies by paint type and surface. Porous or rough surfaces absorb more, reducing coverage.
Why add wastage?
Because paint is always lost to rollers, trays and spills, so a small allowance prevents running short.
Is my data uploaded?
No. The calculation runs entirely in your browser.
