Estimate EV charging time and cost
Charging an electric vehicle takes time and costs money, both worth knowing before you plug in. This calculator estimates EV charging time and cost from the battery size, charge level, charger power and electricity price.
Why charging time and cost both matter
Charging time depends on how much energy you need to add, the gap between current and target charge times the battery size, divided by the charger’s power, so a bigger battery or a slower charger means a longer wait. The cost is the energy added times the electricity price. Estimating both lets you plan a journey around charging stops and understand the running cost of an EV, which is usually much lower per mile than fuel but varies with electricity price and charger type. It turns charging from a guess into a plan.

Frequently Asked Questions
What determines charging time?
The energy needed, the gap between current and target charge times the battery size, divided by the charger’s power. A slower charger means a longer wait.
How is charging cost calculated?
As the energy added (in kilowatt-hours) times the electricity price per kilowatt-hour, giving the cost of the charge.
Why does charger power matter?
Because it sets how fast energy is delivered, so a higher-power charger fills the battery in less time for the same energy added.
Is charging cheaper than fuel?
Usually much cheaper per mile, though it varies with electricity price and charger type. The calculator shows the cost for your inputs.
Is my data uploaded?
No. The calculation runs entirely in your browser.
Privacy & Security
Calculated locally in your browser. Real charging speed varies with temperature and charging curve.
