Calculate cart abandonment rate
Cart abandonment rate measures the percentage of online shoppers who add items to their cart but leave without completing the purchase. It is calculated by dividing the number of abandoned carts by the total carts created, or equivalently one minus the ratio of completed purchases to carts created, expressed as a percentage. If a thousand carts are created and three hundred lead to a purchase, the abandonment rate is seventy percent. The calculator also estimates the revenue you could recover by improving the rate.
Average abandonment rates across ecommerce are famously high, often around seventy percent, so even small improvements are valuable.
Reducing abandonment
A high abandonment rate usually points to friction at checkout: unexpected shipping costs, forced account creation, a long or confusing process, limited payment options or security concerns. Addressing these, along with tactics like cart-recovery emails and clear pricing, can recover a meaningful share of otherwise lost sales.
Because abandoned carts represent shoppers with clear purchase intent, they are among the most valuable visitors to win back. Tracking the rate over time shows whether checkout improvements are working. All calculation happens locally in your browser.
