Calculate email open and click rates

This calculator works out the three core email marketing metrics from your campaign numbers. Open rate is the percentage of delivered emails that were opened, calculated as unique opens divided by emails delivered. Click-through rate is the percentage of delivered emails that generated a click, calculated as clicks divided by delivered. Click-to-open rate measures how compelling your content was once the email was opened, calculated as clicks divided by opens. Together these reveal how well your subject lines and content perform.

Using emails delivered rather than emails sent is the standard basis, since it excludes bounces.

Reading your email metrics

Open rate reflects the strength of your subject line, sender name and send timing, while click-through rate reflects the appeal of your content and call to action. Click-to-open rate isolates content quality from subject-line performance, since it only counts people who actually opened. Comparing these against industry benchmarks and your own history shows what is working.

Note that open-rate tracking relies on an invisible image that privacy features increasingly block, so open rates have become less reliable and click-based metrics more important. All calculation happens locally in your browser.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a good email open rate?

It varies by industry, but open rates often fall between fifteen and twenty-five percent. Compare against your sector and your own past campaigns.

How is click-to-open rate different from CTR?

Click-through rate divides clicks by delivered emails, while click-to-open divides clicks by opens, isolating how engaging your content was for those who opened.

Should I use sent or delivered emails?

Use delivered emails, which excludes bounces, so the rates reflect the audience that actually received the message.

Why are open rates less reliable now?

Open tracking depends on loading an invisible image, which privacy features increasingly block, so open counts can be inflated or missed.

How can I improve open rates?

Test subject lines, optimise the sender name, send at better times, and keep your list clean so engaged subscribers remain.
