Calculate your Net Promoter Score

Net Promoter Score measures customer loyalty from a single survey question, and it is a widely-used benchmark. This calculator computes your NPS from survey responses, so you can gauge how likely customers are to recommend you.

How NPS is calculated

NPS comes from asking how likely customers are to recommend you on a zero-to-ten scale, then sorting them: promoters (9-10), passives (7-8), and detractors (0-6). The score is the percentage of promoters minus the percentage of detractors, giving a number from minus 100 to plus 100. Passives count toward the total but not the score. This method deliberately ignores the middle to focus on the enthusiasts and the unhappy, on the theory that loyalty is driven by the extremes. It is a simple, comparable measure of sentiment.

A benchmark of loyalty

The calculation runs entirely in your browser, so your figures are never uploaded and stay on your own machine, which matters for business numbers you would not want to share.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is NPS calculated?

As the percentage of promoters (who score 9-10) minus the percentage of detractors (who score 0-6). Passives (7-8) count toward the total but not the score.

What is a good NPS?

It ranges from -100 to +100. Positive is generally good and higher is better, but what counts as strong varies by industry, so compare against your sector.

Why ignore the passives?

Because NPS focuses on the extremes, enthusiasts and the unhappy, on the theory that loyalty and word of mouth are driven by them rather than the neutral middle.

What question does NPS use?

How likely a customer is to recommend you, on a zero-to-ten scale. The single question is what makes NPS simple and comparable.
