Tell Google which language version to show whom
A site with versions in several languages needs to tell search engines which version to show which visitor, or they compete with each other and the wrong one ranks in the wrong country. Hreflang tags carry that information. This generator builds the correct tags from the languages and regions you specify, so you can drop them into your pages.
Why hreflang is so easy to get wrong
Hreflang has strict rules that are easy to breach. The tags must be reciprocal: if the English page points to the French page, the French page must point back, or search engines ignore the whole set. The language and region codes must be valid and correctly formatted. A single self-referencing tag is required on each page. Generating the tags mechanically removes the transcription errors that make hand-written hreflang silently fail.
Prevent duplicate-content confusion
Without hreflang, near-identical pages in different languages or regional variants look like duplicate content, and search engines may pick one and suppress the others. Correct hreflang tells them these are alternatives for different audiences, so each ranks for its own market. The generator produces the tag set; place them in the head of each corresponding page. It runs in your browser.

Frequently Asked Questions
What do hreflang tags do?
They tell search engines which language or regional version of a page to show which visitors, so versions do not compete and the right one ranks in the right market.
Why must hreflang tags be reciprocal?
Because search engines only trust the relationship if both pages point to each other. If the English page references the French page but not vice versa, the set is ignored.
Does each page need to reference itself?
Yes. A self-referencing hreflang tag is required on each page in the set, alongside the tags pointing to the other language versions.
What happens without hreflang on a multi-language site?
Near-identical language or regional versions can look like duplicate content, so search engines may rank one and suppress the others rather than serving each to its market.
Where do the tags go?
In the head of each corresponding page, or in the sitemap. The generator produces the set for you to place.
