Convert between text and Unicode braille
Braille has a Unicode representation, which means the braille patterns can be shown on an ordinary screen. This tool translates text into Grade 1 (uncontracted) braille and translates braille back into text, so you can produce readable braille patterns for learning, labelling and demonstration without specialist software.
Grade 1 braille, letter for letter
Grade 1 braille maps each letter, digit and common punctuation mark to a braille cell one-to-one, without the contractions that Grade 2 uses for common words. That makes it the right choice for learning the alphabet, for short labels, and for anyone starting out, because the correspondence between print and braille is direct and predictable. Capital letters and numbers are marked with the proper indicator cells so the output is correct braille, not just letter substitution.
