Sometimes numbers are the noise, not the signal: page numbers scattered through copied text, reference numbers cluttering a list of names, digits in an OCR result that should have been letters. Choose what happens to the gap
Removing a number leaves a hole, and what you want in that hole depends on the text. Sometimes the digit should simply vanish, closing "abc123def" to "abcdef". Sometimes it should become a space, so a numbered list turns into clean phrases rather than run-on words. The option to replace numbers with a space rather than nothing lets you pick the result that reads correctly.
