Count a specific word or phrase
The Word Occurrence Counter tells you exactly how many times a particular word or phrase appears in your text, and highlights every match so you can see where they are. Unlike a general word-frequency list, this tool focuses on the one term you care about, which is far faster when you are checking a single keyword, name or phrase.
Two options control matching. Case sensitivity lets you distinguish "Apple" from "apple" when it matters, or ignore the difference when it does not. Whole-word matching ensures that searching for "cat" does not also count "category" or "concatenate", counting only the standalone word.
Why count occurrences
SEO writers check that a keyword appears often enough without overstuffing. Editors find repeated words to vary their prose. Students verify that they have used a required term. Developers and analysts count how often a token appears in logs or data.

Can I count a multi-word phrase?
Yes. Type the full phrase in the find box and the tool counts and highlights every exact occurrence of that phrase.
What does whole-word matching do?
It counts the term only when it stands alone. Searching "art" will not match "start" or "party" when whole-word matching is on.
Is the search case sensitive?
Only if you tick "Case sensitive". By default the match ignores case, so uppercase and lowercase versions are counted together.
Does it show where the matches are?
Yes. Every occurrence is highlighted in the text below the count, so you can see exactly where the term appears.
Is there a limit on text length?
There is no fixed limit. Counting runs in your browser, so even long documents are searched instantly without uploading.
