The classic children’s word game, automated

Pig Latin is the playground code where "hello" becomes "ellohay" and "apple" becomes "appleway". The rules are simple but tedious to apply word by word across a whole sentence. This translator applies them instantly to anything you paste, so you can turn a message into Pig Latin without working through each word in your head.

The two rules it follows

Pig Latin has two cases. A word that starts with a consonant moves the opening consonant cluster to the end and adds "ay", so "quick" becomes "ickquay". A word that starts with a vowel simply adds "way" (or "ay") to the end, so "egg" becomes "eggway". The translator recognises which case each word falls into and applies the right rule, keeping the sentence readable.

Fun, and a gentle lesson in phonetics

Beyond being a game, Pig Latin is a nice illustration of onset and rhyme, the way a syllable splits into its opening consonants and the rest. Watching how each word transforms makes the structure of English syllables visible. The translation runs entirely in your browser, so it works offline and nothing you type is uploaded.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does it handle words starting with consonants?

The opening consonant cluster moves to the end and ay is added, so quick becomes ickquay.

Can it translate a whole sentence?

Yes. Paste as much text as you like and each word is translated in place, keeping the sentence order.

Is it a real language?

No, it is a word game and a light illustration of how English syllables split into onset and rhyme, not a language of its own.

Is my text uploaded?

No. The translation runs entirely in your browser and works offline.
