Shuffle text into a random order

The Text Shuffler randomly rearranges your text. You can shuffle whole lines, which is perfect for randomising a list of names, questions or playlist entries; shuffle individual words to scramble a sentence; or shuffle characters to create anagram-style jumbles. Each click produces a fresh random order, so you can keep shuffling until you get a result you like.

The shuffle uses the Fisher-Yates algorithm, which gives every arrangement an equal chance and avoids the bias of naive sorting tricks. This matters when fairness counts, such as random draws or balanced quiz ordering.

Practical shuffling uses

Teachers randomise question and answer order to discourage copying. Event organisers shuffle entrant lists for fair draws. Developers and testers generate randomised input data. Writers and poets experiment with word order, and puzzle makers build letter jumbles for games.

Because the randomisation runs locally in your browser, your text is never uploaded and every shuffle is generated on your own device. Use the copy button to keep the arrangement you want.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the shuffle truly random?

It uses the Fisher-Yates algorithm with the browser random generator, giving every possible order an equal chance. It is suitable for games and casual draws but not cryptographic use.

Can I shuffle a list of lines?

Yes. Choose "Lines" and each line keeps its content while the order is randomised, which is ideal for name lists and quiz questions.

Will shuffling the same text give the same result?

No. Each click produces a new random order, so you can shuffle repeatedly until you are happy with the result.

Does character shuffle keep line breaks?

No. Character mode removes line breaks and jumbles all characters together to form a single scrambled string.

Is my text sent anywhere?

No. All shuffling happens in your browser, so your text and the random order stay on your device.
