Extract everything between two markers
The Extract Text Between tool finds every piece of text that sits between a start marker and an end marker and lists them for you. The markers can be anything: round or square brackets, quotation marks, HTML or XML tags, or whole words. For example, with "(" and ")" as the markers, it pulls out the contents of every pair of parentheses in your text.
Because it uses a non-greedy match, each result stops at the first end marker, so multiple bracketed sections on the same line are extracted separately rather than being merged into one. You can choose to include the markers in each result or strip them, and trim surrounding whitespace.
Common extraction tasks
Developers pull values out of logs, config files and tagged data. Writers extract everything inside quotation marks or square brackets. Translators collect the text between tags for localisation. Data workers isolate fields wrapped in consistent delimiters before importing them.

Can the markers be words, not just symbols?
Yes. The start and end markers can be any text, including whole words or multi-character tags, and they are matched literally.
What if there are many matches on one line?
Each pair is extracted separately. The non-greedy match stops at the first end marker, so adjacent bracketed sections do not merge.
Can I keep the markers in the result?
Yes. Tick "Include the markers" to keep the start and end text with each match, or leave it off to get only the inner content.
Do I need to escape special characters?
No. Markers such as brackets, dots and tags are treated as literal text, so you type them exactly as they appear in your source.
What happens if a marker is missing?
If a start marker has no matching end marker later in the text, that section is simply not extracted, and only complete pairs are returned.
