Check if something is a palindrome
A palindrome is a word, phrase, number or sequence that reads the same forwards and backwards, like "level", "racecar" or "12321". The Palindrome Checker tells you instantly whether your input qualifies. By default it ignores spaces, punctuation and letter case, so famous phrase palindromes such as "A man, a plan, a canal: Panama" are correctly recognised despite their spaces and capital letters.
You can turn off this normalisation to perform a strict, character-for-character check, which is useful when exact spacing and punctuation matter, for example when testing data or identifiers.
Who checks for palindromes
Students and teachers explore palindromes in language and maths lessons. Writers and puzzle makers craft palindromic phrases and verify them. Programmers testing palindrome algorithms confirm expected results. Parents and children enjoy discovering palindromic words, dates and numbers.
The checker uses Unicode-aware comparison where supported, so accented letters and non-Latin scripts are handled correctly when normalisation is enabled. The result shows both the cleaned input and its reverse so you can see exactly what was compared. Everything runs locally in your browser.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does it handle phrases with spaces and punctuation?
Yes. By default spaces, punctuation and case are ignored, so phrase palindromes like "Was it a car or a cat I saw?" are recognised.
Can I do a strict exact check?
Yes. Untick the ignore option and the tool compares the text exactly as typed, including spaces, punctuation and capitalisation.
Do numbers work too?
Yes. Numeric palindromes such as 1221 or 90909 are checked the same way, reading the digits forwards and backwards.
What is the longest input it can check?
There is no fixed limit. The check runs in your browser and is effectively instant even for long phrases.
Does it work with other languages?
Where your browser supports Unicode matching, accented and non-Latin characters are compared correctly after normalisation.
