Know before you post, not after
X counts characters, not words, and the 280-character limit arrives sooner than it feels like it should. This counter shows your length against the limit as you type, so you can trim before you hit the wall rather than discovering mid-post that you are forty characters over and hunting for words to cut.
Why the count is not just string length
Counting tweet length is more subtle than counting characters. Emoji and many non-Latin characters count as more than one unit, and a URL is counted at a fixed length regardless of how long it actually is. A naive character count therefore disagrees with what the platform reports. Understanding that the limit is about units, not visible glyphs, is the difference between a count you can trust and one that surprises you.
A drafting aid, not just a gauge
Seeing the remaining count live turns the counter into a drafting tool: you write, watch the budget, and shape the sentence to fit. It is equally useful for threads, where each post has its own budget, and for reply-length discipline generally. The counting runs entirely in your browser, so your draft is never uploaded before you decide to post it.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the character limit it counts against?
The standard 280-character limit for an X (Twitter) post. The counter shows how many characters you have used and how many remain as you type.
Do emoji count as one character?
Not always. Many emoji and non-Latin characters count as more than one unit toward the limit, which is why a platform-accurate count can differ from a plain character count.
Does it count a URL at its full length?
On the platform, links are counted at a fixed length regardless of the actual URL. A simple counter measures the raw text, so treat long links with that in mind.
Is my draft saved or uploaded?
No. The counting runs entirely in your browser, so your draft stays on your machine until you choose to post it.
Can I use it for threads?
Yes. Count each post separately against the limit as you draft the pieces of a thread.
