Upside-down text turns "hello" into something that looks like it has been rotated a hundred and eighty degrees, using characters that resemble flipped letters. This generator produces that effect from your input, reversing the order and swapping each letter for its upside-down look-alike, ready to copy into a post or message for a bit of fun.
How the illusion is built
There is no real rotation happening. Each letter is replaced with a Unicode character that happens to look like the upside-down version of it, and the whole string is reversed so it reads correctly when your eye starts from the other end. Put those two steps together and plain text appears flipped, even though it is still ordinary text underneath.

Because the result is Unicode characters, it pastes and keeps its flipped look wherever text is accepted. The same caveat as other novelty text applies: it is for decoration, not for anything that needs to be searched or read by a screen reader, since the look-alike characters are not the real letters.
